The QX56 has undergone a substantial redesign for 2011. It is slightly longer and wider, but is nearly 4 inches lower. The styling is less boxy and sleeker, resembling the flow and styling of the rest of the Infiniti line. The redesigned interior, while always luxurious, has more three-dimensional gages, and the leather appointments on the doors have a lush cushiony appeal. The 2011 model has second row bench seat options, seating 8, or second row captain seats, seating seven passengers. A new option for the center seats is a rear entertainment system that can play two different DVD’s at the same time. The QX56 comes standard with CD stereo with both USB jack and Bluetooth streaming-audio capabilities; options include the addition of a Bose stereo.
The third row seat has a power-recline option, or can power fold into the deck, creating an extra roomy cargo space. Standard features include leather upholstery, power adjustable and heated front seats. Optional cooled front seats and heated rear seats are also available. In addition to the front seat areas, all passenger portions of the care are equipped with side impact and side curtain airbags with roll-over sensors. Anti-lock brakes and an electronic stability system are also standard, as are Xenon lights, power-folding side mirrors, with turn-signal indicators and puddle lamps.
The QX56 comes with a standard 5.6 liter 400 horsepower engine with direct-injection routed to all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic gearbox, producing zero to 60 in 6.1 seconds. It sports an 8,500 lb towing capability, and an optional 360-degree camera view system. This ultra-powerful SUV gets 14mpg in city; 20 mpg on the highway. Consumer Reports testing has yet to be published, 2011QX56 but it is expected to perform well in the consumer categories that Infiniti dominates: reliability and performance.
